How to Sell Digital Products If You’re Not Creative

So you’ve probably been thinking about selling digital products, but there’s just one problem: you don’t consider yourself particularly creative! Don’t worry, you’re not alone! There are hundreds, if not thousands, of online business owners who are not creative at all, but still manage to make money by creating simple designs!

I know this statement is contrary to what most people believe, but I-too, am not the most creative when it comes to designing digital products, but have still been able to make a full-time income by selling my products online!

Remember: With the right strategies and tools at your disposal, anyone can launch a successful digital product business, regardless of their artistic ability and that’s exactly what we’re going to cover in this blog post!

Identify Your Strengths

While you may not consider yourself a creative genius, chances are you have other skills and strengths that can be leveraged in the digital product marketplace.

Take some time to reflect on your areas of expertise, whether it’s research, organization, problem-solving, or communication. Once you do, I want you to write down all the skills you currently have and the strengths that you could use when it comes to creating your products.

After you do, have a brainstorming session and think of all the possible things you can create with what you already know how to do.

The purpose behind doing this is that these skills can serve as the foundation for creating valuable digital products that cater to the specific needs of your target audience and it’ll also make the creating process for you a lot smoother!

“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.”
— Robert Greene

Utilize Premade Elements and Tools

There are plenty of tools and resources available to help you create professional-looking digital products with minimal effort! The best part about some of these tools is that they also give you premade templates, which you can use as the basis of your own digital product.

Let’s take the website Canva for example. Canva offers a wide range of customizable templates and elements for various digital products, including Ebooks, Instagram reel covers, resume templates, infographics, business cards, social media graphics, and sooooooo much more. So if you are sitting there and don’t know where to begin, take a look at one of their templates, use it for inspiration, and then create a similar product of your own. And viola! Before you know it, you’ll have your own digital product to sell.

Now something to keep in mind is that these templates aren’t for you to resell as is.They are there to guide you and give you an idea of what you can create yourself, so if you want to avoid any future headaches or even lawsuits, I would avoid selling them exactly as they are.

Alternatively, you can also take another route which is the PURCHASING A PREMADE TEMPLATE THAT YOU CAN RESELL AS YOUR OWN!

This will do the heavy lifting of designing the product for you and all you be left with to do is to promote it! If you are looking to do this route, you can check out a great website like Creative Fabrica or even Creative Market which have tons of pre-made products you can purchase and resell yourself (just make sure you purchase the correct license for that product!)

Focus on Value

Ultimately,  when you are lacking creativity to create new designs, I always say: STICK TO ADDING VALUE TO YOUR PRODUCT!

Well, what your customer really cares about is having a solution to a problem that they are currently having! They don’t care as much on how many flowers you add to your design, or what the font you chose looks like…. They want a SOLUTION and that’s where you product comes into play.

You see, as long as you are helping your customer solve a problem, your design can be very simple and basic. There is no need to go over the top with beautiful graphics and unique colors that make it pop out! All you need to do is provide them with tons of value around the subject/topic/situation they are currently struggling with or trying to overcome and show them the transformation that they will get if they purchase that product from you.

The best way I can show you this, whether it’s a budgeting spreadsheet, a meal planning template, or a step-by-step guide to mastering a skill, focus on creating products that offer tangible benefits and address pain points within your target market and you should be able to land the sale!

Non-Creative Digital Product Ideas

Like I mentioned early: Not all digital products require artistic design skills! Luckily, there are many other digital products you can create that don’t require you to be the next Picasso! So for my non creatives reading this right now, here are some of my top suggestions for digital products that I believe are super easy to create and that do not require a ton of artistic ability:

  • Checklist Printables: Create printables for daily, weekly, or monthly checklists for to-do lists, goal setting, and habit tracking.
  • Budgeting Spreadsheets: Create customizable budgeting spreadsheets to help individuals track their expenses, savings goals, and financial transactions.
  • Resume Templates: Create beautiful yet simple resume templates with customizable layouts and sections for different industries and job roles.
  • Educational Worksheets: Create printable educational worksheets for children, covering subjects like math, language arts, science, and geography, suitable for homeschooling or classroom use.
  • Printable Meal Planners: Create customizable meal planning templates that help customers organize their weekly meals, grocery lists, and recipes for a healthier lifestyle.

Ultimately, I want you to pick something that won’t drive you crazy as soon as you start creating! If you are a newbie, pick a design that is easy and simple to create. If you have a bit more experience, then dip your toes into more complex digital products!

If you are needing more inspiration or want to see what other simple digital products you can create, my suggestion would be to go to Google or Online Marketplaces like Etsy, Redbubble & Amazon, and look at what is currently selling! This way you can see what products might actually make you money, and you’ll get your creative juices flowing, so that you can create something of your own.

As you can see, it’s definitely possible to create and sell digital products without being super creative!

Now, if you want further help and would like to see how I create my own digital products as a semi-creative person lol, feel free to check out my DIGITAL PRODUCT GUIDE that I created for beginners looking to make their own passive income through digital products!
