When starting your digital product business, you will reach a point where you’ll ask yourself the one question every entrepreneur has asked themselves: What exactly should I be selling?
If you don’t know the answer to this, DON’T WORRY! You’re definitely not alone! Most people struggle to find what they want to sell because they chase the money instead of chasing the passion, so that’s exactly where we are going to start.
In this blog post, I’ll share the 3 essential steps to help you identify the digital products that best suit your online business (and your passions). But first things first, I want us to keep something in mind before jumping in and that is WHAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT!
The reason I want you to keep this is mind is because passion will always be there when you feel like giving up, or when you don’t have the energy to put in the work! If you like something, you’ll show up and put in energy towards it and that’s exactly what you’re going to need to do if you start selling Digital Products online!
Now that you’ll be keeping that in mind, let’s jump into the 3 Ways to Figure Out What Digital Products to Sell Online!
STEP 1: BRAINSTORM
The first step in finding the right digital products to sell online is to do a brainstorming session to figure out what you’d like to create! You can do this by thinking about your skills and what you are passionate about!
Now I don’t want you to just think of them, I want you to write them down! I want you to take out a notepad or open a Google doc and create two columns:
- First Column: “My Skills”
- Second Column: “My Passions.”
Then start by listing things you’re good at and things you’re passionate about. Don’t worry about making connections between the two columns just yet; this step is all about getting ideas down on paper.
Ask yourself questions like:
- What do I love to do?
- What am I good at?
- What comes easily to me?
- What have I helped others with in the past?
- What do people often praise me for?
- What do people come to me for help with?
- What do I enjoy learning about or spending my free time on?
This brainstorming exercise will help you identify digital product ideas that align with your skills and passions.
Once you have completed your list, pick the 1 thing you are the best at, or the 1 thing that you are most passionate about, and create your digital product around that subject.
Remember: PASSIONS FUEL ACTIONS!
If you want to take massive steps in your business, follow your passions, and it’ll make you want to show up more!
Step 2: Combine Passion, Skills, & Market Demand
Now that you’ve figured out what you’re good at and passionate about, it’s time to think about what customers are actually in the market for and how you can help solve their problems with the digital products that you are going to create!
While it’s important to create products that you love, passion alone isn’t enough to sustain a successful online business.
You also need to consider market demand and the value you can provide to customers. Look for the intersection of your passion, skills, and what people are searching for.
Consider the following:
- Can you leverage your skills and passions to create something that solves a problem or fulfills a need?
- Is there an existing demand for the digital products you’re considering?
- How can you differentiate your products from competitors in the market?
Make a list of any and all product ideas that come to mind. By combining your passions, skills, and market demand, you’ll increase your chances of creating digital products that resonate with customers and drive sales!
Step 3: Market Research
Once you have a list of potential digital product ideas, it’s time to do some market research! Explore online marketplaces like Etsy & Amazon to see what similar products are already available. Pay attention to customer reviews and feedback to identify areas for improvement or gaps in the market. I also highly recommend analyzing your competitors’ products and sales data.
This will give you insights into pricing strategies, customer preferences, and market trends, which I talk about in more depth inside The 2-Week Entrepreneur.
By thoroughly researching the market, you’ll be better equipped to refine your digital product ideas and position them for success. If you could still use a little more help, I have put together this list of 250 Niche Ideas and 200 Products to Sell Online for you to get inspired!
